Can’t We All Just Get Along:
Using Estate Planning Agreements to Address Family Issues
December 8, 2014
In Canada, 38% of marriages end before the 30th wedding anniversary yet 43% of people whose first marriage ended in divorce will remarry. Over half (55%) will marry someone who also was married before. Chances are the second marriage will be successful but 1 in 5 Canadians who remarried left their second spouse within an average of 7.6 year (all according to Statistics Canada). All these numbers mean that estate planning for second families is critical in order to ensure that the interests of the second spouse and children from previous relationships are balanced. This informative session will address the estate planning issues, including how to raise the issue with the clients and the benefits of and considerations when preparing estate planning agreement.
